MIDWIFERY STUDIES PROGRAM
International Institute for HealthCare Professionals
The International Institute for HealthCare Professionals is now offering Midwifery Studies, a three year diploma program for students interested in non-nurse direct-entry licensed midwifery in the state of Florida.
The Midwifery Studies Program incorporates the core competencies of the Midwives Alliance of North America. The midwifery studies program is a three year program of classroom and clinical instruction.
The program meets the requirements directed by the Florida Department of Health-Council of Licensed Midwifery. We are approved by the Department of Education. Graduates are eligible to apply for the North American Registry of Midwives Examination to become Florida Licensed Midwives.
Direct entry midwives in Florida are licensed and regulated by F. S.467, the Midwifery Practice Act to provide prenatal, intrapartal and postnatal care to low risk women according to risk screening criteria established by rule. Clients with risk factors are assessed by a physician, and those determined to be at risk may continue to receive care from the licensed midwife with physician collaboration. Midwives are licensed under F.S.467 after completing an educational program, receiving a diploma and passing the NARM (North American Registry of Midwives) exam. Florida Licensed Midwives practicing within Florida under Chapter 467 FS have the ability to provide prenatal. labor and delivery and postpartum services for Florida families.
The midwifery studies program provides clinical and classroom instruction in all aspects of prenatal, intrapartal and postnatal care, including basic sciences, behavioral sciences, childbirth education, applied pharmacology, midwifery ethics, gynecology, women's health and family planning, nutrition and breastfeeding.
